Superfresh Growers® Tyler Weinbender Details Year-Round Program and Packaging Strategy
ANAHEIM, CA - Apple demand during the winter months spikes as warm and inviting holiday dishes take center stage. For suppliers like Superfresh Growers®, this kind of demand is a catalyst for ensuring its program is able to keep retailers stocked all year-round.
Let’s listen to what Tyler Weinbender, Director of Packaging and Sustainability, had to say.
“Right now, we're really strengthening our 12-month programs on key varieties like Cosmic Crisp®, Honeycrisp, Gala, Fujis—most of your core varieties,” Tyler explained. "We're really making everything a 12 month program, so you can stick with one supplier all season for all your divisions.”
Superfresh Growers is also making itself valuable to the buy-side in other ways by upping its sustainability game. The apple provider is already using recycled content in all of its corrugate and PET clamshells for cherries and blueberries.
“The last missing piece has […] been our apple packaging, so this PCR bag is a great way to introduce recycled content into our plastic bags,” Tyler noted. “[…] It’s essentially a bag that's partially made out of post-consumer recycled plastic.”
Fully recyclable and FDA approved for food contact, this solution is a great way to reduce dependency on virgin plastic. Tyler also explained that it lowers Superfresh Growers’ carbon footprint and emissions.
