
USDA Files Actions Against Alejo Markets Inc. and Alejo Grocers Inc
The U.S.D.A. has filed actions against two California produce companies, Alejo Markets Inc. and Alejo Grocers Inc. for failure to pay for produce.

Alejo Markets Inc. allegedly failed to promptly pay $161,670 to eight sellers purchased between July 2010 and December 2011.
Alejo Grocers Inc. allegedly failed to make full payment to 10 sellers in the total amount of $389,524 purchased between July 2010 and December 2011 allegedly failed to make full payment promptly to 10 sellers in the total amount of $389,524 under PACA. The company, operating from California, purchased the produce between July 2010 and December 2011.

Both companies will have an opportunity to request a hearing. If the USDA find that the company committed repeated and flagrant violations, it would be barred from the produce industry for two years and its principals for one year.
