Weathermelon Weather Report - September 13, 2019

IRVINE, CA - Good morning, AndNowUKnow readers!

Today I am bringing you some of the category and weather news from around the industry. Check back twice weekly to see the latest around all growing regions.

CALIFORNIA HEATWAVE STILL ON TRACK FOR THIS WEEKEND

The heat is coming to California this weekend. Expect temperatures to be hot today and tomorrow, and will begin to cool off starting Sunday.

Temperatures will be in the upper 80°s today and tomorrow in the coastal growing regions of Salinas, Santa Maria, and Oxnard. Growing regions just inland from the coast such as Hollister, Santa Paula, and Soledad will see temperatures around 100° through tomorrow. Maybe a possible bump in production?

San Joaquin Valley temperatures will be above 100° through tomorrow and a possible 100° on Sunday.

Across the state, temperatures will drop significantly on Monday and will remain cooler through Thursday. Next Friday, temperatures will rise again and expect a hot weekend of September 21 across the state.

COOLING TREND COMING TO THE NORTHWEST

Starting this Sunday, expect a cooling trend as a low-pressure trough comes through, bringing much cooler temperatures and a chance of rain on Sunday and Monday. High temperatures for the region from the Willamette Valley in Oregon to the Yakima Valley in Washington will be in the low 60°s from Sunday through next Wednesday. High temperatures will warm back up into the 70°s on Thursday, Sept 19, where they will remain for the foreseeable future.

Possible reduction in berry production from the regions?

MICHIGAN REMAINS IN SUMMER-LIKE CONDITIONS

At a time when the weather should begin to cool in Michigan, temperatures will remain warm next week with highs in the mid 80°s and minimum temperatures in the low 60°s through next Thursday. By Saturday, Sept 21, temperatures will cool off to season averages with highs in the low 70°s and minimum temperatures in the low 50°s.

If you are buying items such as tomatoes and bell peppers out of Michigan, expect production to continue.

ANOTHER HEAT WAVE FOR INTERIOR SOUTH AFRICA

Yesterday, the citrus growing regions of western South Africa were experiencing rain with high temperatures in the 50°s and lows in the 40°s. Things will change dramatically with another heat wave coming to the region next week. By Monday, high temperatures will be in the 80°s and lows in the upper 50°s. These warmer temperatures will last through next Thursday.

Spring in South Africa is just around the corner.

HURRICANE CENTRAL

Adding Insult to Injury in the Bahamas

There is currently a disturbance in the Atlantic just East of the Bahama Islands. There is a 70 percent chance of this storm forming into a cyclone. The storm is expected to bring heavy rains today and tomorrow to areas of the Bahamas already affected by Dorian. This storm has the possibility of bringing rains to Florida next week.

In the Pacific, there is Tropical Depression #13 spinning approximately 1,000 miles due South of Cabo San Lucas. This storm is headed in a Westerly direction out into the Pacific and will not affect any land masses.

Thank you as always! We will be back next week with another report.
