Bi-Lo Completes 246 Million Dollar Deal with Delhaize
Bi-Lo Holdings has completed its $246 million deal to acquire 163 grocery stores from Delhaize America.
The grocery chains included in the deal are Sweetbay, Harveys, and Reid’s. The Sweetbay stores will be converted into Winn-Dixies, Reids into Bi-Los, while most Harveys will continue operating under their current banner. Most of the conversions are already complete, said Brian Wright, Bi-Lo spokesman, according to The Florida Times Union.
Under the deal approved by federal regulators, Bi-Lo Holdings agreed last February that it would divest twelve of its supermarket chains, which include Bi-Lo and Winn Dixie, to Rowes IGA Supermarkets, HAC, Inc., W. Lee Flowers & Co., and Food Giant.
Meanwhile, Delhaize has also completed the sale of its former Sweetbay distribution center in Plant City, Florida to C&S Wholesale Grocers for $28 million, according to a press release.
Bi-Lo is currently in plans to close up to thirteen stores – eight of them Delhaize stores, five of them Bi-Lo stores – now that the deal is complete, due their proximity to other stores, according to Jacksonville Business Journal.
Congrats on completing this successful deal, Bi-Lo and Delhaize.
