LOXAHATCHEE, FL - One of the most tangible signs of company growth is the expansion of its infrastructure. This is the case as J&J Family of Farms, the Florida-based grower, packer, and shipper, has announced strategic investments through the acquisition of land as well as a new facility.

Jim Gallagher, President, J&J Family of Farms“For nearly 40 years, J&J has stayed at the forefront of an ever-changing industry by taking care of our people and the land. Now, at a time of accelerating growth for the company, we are proud to further deepen our commitment to those values,” said Jim Gallagher, President. “Consumer interest in adopting plant-forward diets to support health and well-being, not only for themselves but for the planet, is at an all-time high. The future of produce lies in unlocking innovation that delivers new attributes, like reduced sugar and increased nutrient density, alongside improved sustainability, transparency, and consumer experience. Today’s announcement is an important next step in our growth plan and positions J&J to deliver the differentiation our customers need to respond to consumer demand.”

J&J already manages over 10,000 acres of farmland and multiple packing and cooling facilities across North America. However, according to a press release, the company has acquired another 1,000 acres near Vero Beach, Florida, to add to its portfolio. The land is being prepared to grow a significant volume of sweet and hot peppers, yellow squash, zucchini, cucumbers, and eggplant for commercial distribution. The newly acquired land will also house a new research and development facility dedicated for seed trials.

The new facility was designed with sustainability as one of its key design elements, including the support of drip agriculture as well as precision nutrient and crop protection applications. Through the use of drip irrigation, J&J can increase water efficiency by up to 70 percent while cutting energy costs by almost 50 percent.

Through these enhancements and the data and insights collected through the new facility, J&J will be able to inform future innovation while expanding best practices for environmental conservation. It will also position the company to develop and launch differentiated products to meet shifting consumer demand for healthy fresh food with a sustainability guarantee.

In addition to this acquisition and new facility, J&J has also welcomed new dry vegetable and watermelon growers to its network across five states, which adds more than 1,000 additional acres to the company’s contracted production capacity.

As J&J Family of Farms and other companies across the fresh produce industry launch new growth strategies, AndNowUKnow will be here to report.
