Red Sun Farms Unveils Growth Plans in Mexico, Canada, and the U.S.
KINGSVILLE, ONTARIO, CANADA - Any news pertaining to greenhouse growers, I’m apt to gobble up, and the latest news from Red Sun Farms is no different. Leveling up its investments across multiple facilities, the grower is responding to increased consumer demand for locally grown produce.
“The Red Sun Farms team continues to build its business on sustainable growth across Mexico, U.S., and Canada. This announcement supports our commitment to deliver the very best produce to our customers throughout the year” stated Carlos Visconti, CEO of Red Sun Farms Canada and the U.S. “We are investing in our facilities to align with our retail partners demands.”
In 2020, Red Sun Farms completed 27 acres of construction on a three-phase project totaling 63.8 acres in Kingsville, Ontario, a press release explained. The company also made a second investment that included 18 acres of high-tech greenhouse farming, which expanded Red Sun Farms' overall portfolio for the Kingsville location to 42 acres.
On top of this, its operation in Mexico successfully completed a 25-acre expansion prior to the winter crop. For 2021, Red Sun Farms Mexico is on track to deliver an additional 35 acres for this year’s winter season. The company’s press release asserted that this additional acreage will reaffirm Red Sun Farms as the largest vertically integrated high-tech greenhouse grower in North America.
The company has also committed to growth in its state-of-the-art distribution centers to support the above greenhouse developments. Its Pharr, Texas, distribution center will increase its capacity by 40,000 square feet of cold storage, which will bring the facility size to 106,000 square feet. The addition is set to be completed to support the 2021 winter season.
In Kingsville, Ontario, the distribution center will have an additional 22,500 square feet of cold storage this year, which will increase the total size of this location to 62,500 square feet.
In total, the greenhouse grower has 476 acres in Mexico and 211 acres in Canada.
