MONTREAL, CANADA - Yesterday, we received another update from industry leader Summer Citrus from South Africa (SCSA). A letter from Suhanra Conradie, Chief Executive Officer, shared details about the season.

"Here in the Western Cape, we have the perfect weather to produce superior fruit with a Mediterranean-like climate that includes warm, dry summers and rainfall during the winter," she wrote. "There is also a certain 'sophistication' associated with our growers as they only pack the best quality fruit for the US market. If the product does not meet the high standards we have in place, it is simply not shipped to ensure only the premium fruit arrives."

In the letter, Suhanra shared a video of Patrick Kelly, the host of The Produce Industry Podcast, and Erin Meder, General Manager of Capespan NA. The video can be found below.

"The last few weeks have been extremely busy for us, as we are working with a commodity that has an ever-changing life cycle due to the nature of citrus," Suhanra continued. "This type of fruit needs to be harvested at its optimum maturity to ensure we are shipping the right quality to the US to serve the demand of market. Our business model revolves around managing supply and demand, and our goal is to maintain our position in the US market and to grow our business responsibly."

SCSA continues to pack Navel oranges, Cara Caras, and Star Ruby grapefruit, and is awaiting the later Mandarin varieties to start in full swing.
