MILL VALLEY, CA - A fresh produce company is not simply some inanimate entity to be cast aside as the times change. Instead, fresh produce companies are living, breathing life forces that rely on evolution. This ideology was planted in me when I spoke with TerraFresh Organics. The company’s history spans more than 30 years, with the passion and dedication of two individuals giving life to what would one day become an industry powerhouse. Founders Greg Holzman and Steve Akagaki set out on their fresh produce journey in 1985, and that momentum will live on long into the future.

“I had invested in an apple orchard and within two years, successfully converted it into an organic farm. Shortly after, I recruited Akagaki for his vast experience in the produce industry and Purity Organic/Pacific Organic Produce was born,” Greg told me. “We set out to not only support organic farmers, but to seek conventional growers whose farms could be converted into organic farms.”

Just last year in 2019, the two joined forces once again to create a new version of this vision: TerraFresh Organics, an organic fruit company focusing on supplying organic fruit to North America. TerraFresh Organics, in partnership with Harbinger Group, shares a commitment to organics with Misionero, Green Wave Farms, and Vertical Foods. The company has established wide-ranging grower partnerships and has rolled out a vast portfolio of organic fruits under Misionero’s Earth Greens label.

“What differentiates our company from others is the years of relationship building and learning we have under our belt,” Greg continued. “We believe in creating long-lasting partnerships with growers and bringing a unique market focus to the table. We don’t rely solely on programs, so we are always trying to serve the growers and the market in real-time. Our pioneering of the organic sector is a great source of pride, and we will continue to do what is best for a sustainable future.”

At TerraFresh Organics, the team seeks out continuous growth opportunities as consumers learn more about their health. With a generally agreed upon mission to work toward a healthier environment, there are several windows of opportunity for TerraFresh products. To capitalize on these opportunities, the company is always working to grow partnerships with organic farmers as the category continues to thrive. Additionally, TerraFresh has rolled out a new line of products that are bringing another level of quality to the produce aisle.

“We recently launched Oasis Date Gardens, which brings Organic Heirloom Deglet Noor dates to the marketplace for retail customers. The dates are offered in on-the-go snack packs as well as eight-ounce and 32-ounce family-style re-sealable pouches,” Greg said. “Oasis Date Gardens’ re-sealable pouch allows the nutritious snack to be consumed on-the-go. We believe that ‘on-the-go’ shouldn’t mean ‘going without,’ therefore our new snack pack sizes are perfect for a healthy and convenient snack.”

On top of all of this, TerraFresh has announced that it has a strong mango supply that will last through the end of the month. The company is also seeing a steady supply of its citrus programs from Mexico and California, so now is the time for retailers to get in touch.
