SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA & MEXICO - Yesterday morning we reported further on the impacts of Tropical Storm Kay. We checked in with several industry members down in Southern California and Mexico to see if the storm had any effects they could speak to.

Gary Clevenger, Managing Partner of Freska Produce International, took a beat to share some insights with me on the storm’s effects on Freska’s Mexico operations.

“This storm affected harvesting the most; the winds were not that bad in the growing region of Los Mochis. We just had some delays in getting product over any loss of product. The rains have stopped, and now we are back to normal harvesting this week,” he explained.

As we reported yesterday, Dante Galeazzi of Texas International Produce Association also noted harvest issues and transportation delays.

Stewart Lockwood, Senior Director of Grower Services and Field Operation for Limoneira, alerted me to the effects of Tropical Storm Kay on the grower’s operations in California.

“It brought us a little rain to all three districts, which is always good. It did delay harvest a few days in the desert, both Coachella and Yuma, but only by a few days. No major impact,” he noted.
