ELGIN, MN - Honeybear Brands has its eyes on the future, and that mindset is clearly demonstrated in the supplier’s year-two sustainability results, which demonstrated big strides toward its ambitious operational goals. The grower, packer, shipper, and developer of premium apples recently highlighted these accomplishments in its 2021 Sustainability Report.

“As a company, we have been addressing sustainability for more than a decade, but we recognized the need for a bolder and more comprehensive step cementing our standing as industry leaders and encouraging others to set and achieve their own goals,” says Don Roper, Vice President, Sales and Marketing. “We established goals addressing the biggest challenges in the industry, including pollinator health, packaging, food loss, and climate.”

Honeybear Brands’ report showed positive progress toward all markers, with the company on pace to teach each of its goals.

One key area of growth was the company’s climate initiatives. According to a press release, Honeybear Brands sourced 91 percent of its facility energy from renewable sources in 2021, putting the provider on a strong path to meeting its 100 percent goal by 2025.

The apple grower also revealed that it is 32 percent on its way to the goal of establishing 50 acres of pollinator habitats, with a total of 16.25 acres planted. According to Honeybear Brands, establishing habitats is one of the best options to support these pollinators and help them thrive naturally, as parasites, pesticides, climate change, and habitat destruction have led to a steep decline of pollinator populations in recent years.
