Pineapple Express Brings Rain and Avalanches to Washington and Oregon
WEST COAST - Extreme weather events across the country continue to pose threats to some of our industry’s leading operations. One of the most recent developments was on the West Coast, as an onslaught of precipitation hit Oregon and Washington this past Sunday.
"This will mark the beginning of a wet period across Western Washington, as the southern periphery of the Atmospheric River will affect the region before it shifts southward over the area Monday," the National Weather Service reported over the weekend.
According to CNN, the weather event is called the Pineapple Express, also known as an atmospheric river bringing a prolonged period of wet weather. In the Cascade mountain region of Washington, avalanche warnings have gone into effect due to heavy snow. As previous storms have already saturated the region, there is also great potential for flooding.
While we are unsure of the impacts that this weather event will have on fresh produce crops in the area, AndNowUKnow will be sure to keep you informed regarding any significant changes in the market.
