RICHMOND, VA - Two is better than one, am I right? It seems Arko Corp. has that same mindset, as the convenience store chain has appointed two new leaders. One of those leaders—Laura Karet, who was named as a member of the Board of Directors—lands on the team after serving as the Chief Executive Officer of Giant Eagle. In addition, Avram Friedman was named as a Director on the board.

According to MarketScreener, Karet will serve as a Director until her term ends at the company’s 2024 Annual Meeting of Stockholders and a successor is identified. She will be serving on the Audit Committee and Nominating and Governance Committee that operate within the Board of Directors.

Before joining Arko’s Board of Directors, Karet served as the CEO and Chairman of the board at Giant Eagle from 2012 to 2023. Prior to that, she served as Vice President of Marketing for 12 years at the company. She is recognized for many innovations made with Giant Eagle, including enhanced manufacturing and fresh food capabilities.

Karet’s food industry career also extends to her time as a marketing executive at Sara Lee Corporation from 1997 to 2000 and as Brand Manager at Procter & Gamble Company from 1990 to 1997.

In addition, Friedman will serve as a Director until his term ends at the company’s 2025 Annual Meeting of Stockholders and a successor is identified. During his time on the board, he will serve on the Audit Committee and Compensation Committee.

Friedman has served as an Adjunct Associate Professor of Business at Columbia Business School since 2021, the news source noted. Prior to that, he served on the Davidson Kempner Capital Management team as Managing Member. He is recognized for expert portfolio management and for serving on investment and risk committees.
