Lidl Announces First Store in Washington, DC; Michal Lagunionek Discusses
ARLINGTON, VA - Residents of Washington, DC, will gain access to Lidl’s fresh food selection later this year, as the retailer is entering the market for the first time. Members of Lidl’s leadership met with government officials to break ground on the new store last weekend, creating a buzz of excitement as this is the first new supermarket to serve residents in Wards 7 and 8 in more than a decade.
“We thank Mayor Bowser and local leaders for their support and warm welcome to the District,” said Michal Lagunionek, President and Chief Executive Officer of Lidl US. “We are confident that DC residents will appreciate Lidl’s unique and high-quality approach to grocery, which allows shoppers to save money on our award-winning selection of fresh and high quality products. We look forward to building a great team at Skyland and opening our store once construction is completed later this year."
The new store is scheduled to open by late Fall 2022 and will create approximately 45 new jobs. Lidl offers an impressive assortment of fresh, high-quality products including produce and is recognized for its excellent shopping experience, a press release noted.
The store will be a major part of the area’s Skyland Town Center, which provides essential housing and retail and is continuing to grow.
