The pear offers a sweet, bold flavor profile with a smooth, bronze skin that has a unique pink blush and delicious aroma. The pear also has exceptional shelf life and storability.

“This is the first time this variety will be available in the U.S. market,” says Mr. Jason Bushong, Division Manager for Giumarra Wenatchee. “We think there is great potential growth with Angélys because of its unique characteristics and superb flavor. Consumers are really looking for flavor, and this pear will deliver.”

The initial availability for the variety will be in mid-June, with limited supplies of Angélys for this summer. The program will offer trial volumes from June through August for the current year.

“Summer will provide a great opportunity to merchandise the pear in unique ways, either by itself or as part of a larger summer fruit display featuring multiple items,” says Mr. Scott Ross, Eastern Region Business Manager for the Giumarra Companies. “Educating consumers on its key attributes generates interest and leads to repeat purchases.”

Originally bred in France the Angélys is grown in the Nelson region of New Zealand. Additional production is already planned for future seasons.

Looks like this Summer there will be a new kid on the block.
