IMMOKALEE, FL - Where a product is grown has become a greater interest to shoppers over the years as they opt for offerings harvested close to home to ensure freshness. Lipman Family Farms is tapping into this demand for locally sourced produce through its Lipman Local program, in which the supplier has partnered with small- to medium-sized growers across the nation over the last decade, expanding its acreage, increasing supply, and testing new innovations to ensure high-quality produce year round.

Joanna Hazel, Manager, Lipman Local Programs, Lipman Family Farms“Overseeing the growth of our fresh produce supply chain is at the heart of what we do at Lipman, which is enhanced through our Lipman Local program,” said Joanna Hazel, Manager of Lipman Local Programs. “We’ve had the privilege over the last decade of developing strong, lasting relationships with local farmers who have become like family. As we grow together, we are proud to service more communities sustainably, expand our acreage, and continue to bring fresh produce to our customers nationwide.”

The Lipman Local program offers local growers fair return on their crop while meeting consumer demand for produce picked at the peak of freshness with a limited environmental impact, a company release explained. Through its vast national distribution network, the growers are able to reach communities in a more sustainable way, reducing food waste and minimizing the impacts of cross-country shipping.

The program also arms these growers with the tools to bolster their local growing operations with sales and marketing, as well as education on quality control and input costs, food safety management, and tech-forward traceability practices. In addition, the company is in the process of developing new, innovative data collection tools to better predict harvest yields.

Lipman’s network of grower partners exemplifies the success of the Lipman Local program, as its New Jersey and North Carolina partners have increased supply to bring more offering to consumers in peak growing season. As a result of the partnership, New Jersey squash production is ahead of schedule and is currently in full swing. The grower’s network in North Carolina is gearing up to kick off its summer harvest of cucumbers, peppers, and squash.
