Casey Houweling’s Seeds of Tomorrow Project, a program aimed at encouraging the growth and harvest of fresh vegetables for children of Tactic, Guatemala, is now providing a bounty of crops for all to enjoy. Together with Kubo Sustainable Greenhouse Projects and their suppliers, Houweling’s made a commitment to Impact Ministries to raise funds to provide a brand new seedling greenhouse for the children of Tactic. This new greenhouse allows seedlings to be grown indoors, shielded from the rain and planted in fields with root systems strong enough to withstand the showers outdoors.

The project, which was born in the summer of 2012, started to see progress by July 2013, when the greenhouse was built and the first seeds were being sown. On September 30, nearly 1000 local dignitaries, volunteers, students, and local families gathered to officially open the greenhouse, according to a press release. Fresh, locally grown peas, carrots, green beans, swiss chard, onions, cabbage, beets, tomatoes, sweet peppers, and other vegetables are now becoming a regular part of the students’ diets.

“The Seeds of Tomorrow Project is doing more than feeding the children; it is doing more than providing an education … it is an inspiration to our students and to many others who are watching this develop,” says Les Peters, Impact Ministries Field Director.

When asked about the future of the project, Casey Houweling says, “The type of change I feel this project can make is generational. Seeing how far the program has come in a short time, gives me great encouragement that we are on the right path.”

Thank you for this generous contribution to Tactic, Houweling’s!
