Western Veg-Produce's Dylan Lym Talks New Squash Program and Expanding Categories

BAKERSFIELD, CA - With new commodities and a full plate, Western Veg-Produce, Inc. has a few things in the pipeline for the industry in the coming months. Dylan Lym of the company’s melon and veg sales took the time to share some of the recent growth.

Dylan Lym, Head of Melon and Vegetable Sales, Western Veg-Pro

“We start shipping Italian and Yellow squash from Hermosillo, Sonora crossing through Nogales, AZ the first week of October through the end of November,” Dylan shares, making for a new offering to the company’s current line of Mexican produce which includes melons and carrots. “We’ve shipped jumbo carrots from Mexico for almost 15 years. We wanted to offer something besides melons that would go well with that program. Adding squash to the line-up just seemed to make sense.”

The company will also be increasing its volume in both watermelon and honeydew from the same region beginning in the middle of October through mid-December.

Western Veg-Produce markets products packed in both “Short N’ Sweet” and “PRIX” labels, looking to meet the needs of all customers individually. As for the future, Dylan assures me there is more in the works.

“I think that in the future we’ll probably add even more, like bell peppers and cucumbers,” Dylan says. “Our goal is to grow our existing programs, as well as reach further with these new commodities.”
